Bugaloos - Intro

Boyz are bloggin'

Both my boys started blogs tonight! I'm excited to read what write about.

We had a really fun day together! I went to the Kenwood MLK Celebration today. JD Steele performed. It was great! Very proud of my sons.

Tuesday Night = Date Night // Buonissimo

Several years ago I was planning a summer trip to Italy with my family. In order to make the most of our trip my husband and I decided to brush up on our Italian. The community education classes were on Tuesday nights so we wrangled up a babysitter and went to our first lesson. After the six-week sessions were finito, Italian classes morphed into date night.  That was almost four years ago. Date night is still going strong!

If you have children but do not have "Date Night" I encourage you to get going now. Date night is essential for couples. I look forward to Tuesday nights because I know that I'll get to unwind with my darling husband and get a break from making dinner, putting kids to bed...

You wouldn't believe how many times I get the "I wish we had a date night" reaction when I mention date night. Guess what, you can have date night too. It's easy - just follow these simple steps.
  1. Pick a night. Try to choose a night that naturally doesn't have many conflicts.
  2. Find a reliable babysitter who is available on the night you've selected.
  3. Get ready to have fun!
We like to take turns planning our date nights. If there's a new restaurant in town we'd like to try, a band we'd like to hear, a class we'd like to take...we go for it. Keep in mind that if you're on a budget there are all kinds of thrifty date ideas.

Until next time...

Kids, Work, Music - Oh My!

My life is a balancing act. Between kids, (I'm the mom of two boys 8&10), work (I own a web design & SEO company called ArcStone Technologies) and music, (I play in a duo with my husband called DNL and an experimental band called Liminal Phase) - there's not much time for much else. Being this busy has pushed me to be efficient with my time, cut stuff out that doesn't bring meaning to my life and let stuff that's not that important slide. So, what the heck - why not add something else to the mix like a blog? Basically I want to write about stuff that's going on in my life.

Today was a perfect fall day in Minneapolis. The kind of day where it's difficult to be inside at work. I did manage to get outside and take my dog, Roberto out for a nice, long walk.
I picked up the boys from school (They don't have busing due to budget cuts) and I worked while they did their homework. I had to try to explain how to write a "descriptive" sentence to my 2nd grader. It's a bit of a challenging topic to describe.

I had a chance to practice my oboe while the boys were at tennis with their dad. I'm working on my improvisational skills. Learning how to improvise was something that I didn't really work on when I was younger playing a lot of classical music. My husband pulled out a terrific book that he had while taking guitar lessons several years ago.

I made a delicious dinner tonight - salmon on the grill with avocado, kiwi, tomato, pepper, red onion, lime salsa, black beans and a salad. It was really good. The boys cleaned their plates - high praise.

Now - finally after loading a HUGE load of laundry - it's my turn to have some downtime. Maybe I'll even be able to finagle a foot rub from my darling husband.

Until next time...
